Your Metabolism
Your metabolism consist of physical and chemical processes in your body through which you dictate how to use energy from the calories in your diet for several functions, including digestion, absorption, elimination, respiration, circulation, and tempratur regulation. Your hormones are an integral part of your metabolic system in that they determine where the calories come from within your body to burn for energy-muscle or fat. If you lower your caloric intake too much (as many diets do), your body’s natural survival your caloric mechanism will respond by lowering your metabolism in order to preserve the calories you do have. This won’t allow you to lose weight or burn fat efeciently, as your body will fight to actually protect the fat and calories.

Thyroid hormone is important in regulating your metabolism: if you don’t consume enough calories, your thyroid hormone levels will drop significantly. One way to prevent thyroid levels from drooping while dieting is through the magic window meal (discussed in Article 3), Which Supplies your liver with adequate stores of carbohydrates to help prevent your body from slumping into starvation mode. Maintaining balanced hormones controls your metabolism, ensuring that the calories stored in your body are being utilized to burn fat and control your appetite.
